2005 Lansing Over 35 Playoffs Rules

(1) Playoff Format

All 6 teams will qualify for a single elimination playoff tournament which begins the Sunday following the end of the regular season.  Playoffs shall consist of three rounds.  For the first round, the top two teams recieve a bye while the 3rd place hosts 6th place and 4th place hosts 5th place.  (Determination of place will be covered in section (3)).

For the second round, the 1st place team will host the lowest placed winner from the first round while the 2nd place team will host the highest placed winner from the first round.  For example, if the 3rd and 4th place teams win the first round, the 1st will host the 4th while the 2nd will host the 3rd.  However, if the 6th place and 5th place teams win the first round then the 1st will host the 6th and the 2nd will host the 5th.

The winners of the second round will play each other in the third round.  The higher placed team shall be the home team.

The winner of the third round shall be the 2005 Champion.

(2) Rosters

Complete Playoff Rosters must be submitted by August 31st to the League President.

Rosters must list players names and numbers.  If player has no number, that must be stated on the roster.

(3) Determination of place

The ranking of teams will be determined by their regular season record.  In the event that two teams share the same record the tie shall be broken by their head-to-head competition.  In the event that teams are tied in head-to-head competition, the tie shall be broken by a comparision of records against other teams.  Each team’s victories shall be weighted according to a total of the final winning percentages of the teams that they beat.

For example, suppose team A and team B are tied with identical records at the end of the season and they split their head-to-head contests.  Additionally, during the regular season the only difference between team A and team B’s records is that team A beat team C while team B beat team D.  To complete this example, team C’s winning percentage was .667 while team D’s was .333.  In this case, team A would win the tie breaker because they beat better teams.

(4) Game Rules

Game rules will be the same as the regular season, specifically with regards to pitching and designated runners. The only exception to the regular season game rules regards the subsitution of non-rostered players. Teams must have a minimum of nine (9) players from their league roster in the line-up for each playoff game in which they participate.  If a team has less than nine (9) players from its roster present for a scheduled game, that team will forfeit the game.  If the opposing team also has less than nine (9) players present, the game will be postponed.  The rules for regular season games do not apply re these situations.

(5) Player Injury During Playoffs

If a player becomes injured during a playoff game and is unable to take their turn at bat, his team will NOT be charged an out for the missed at bat. However, such a player shall be considered ineligible for the remainder of the game.
